Poet Ko Un Named Invited Chair Professor at KAIST

KAIST appointed a renowned poet, Ko Un, as an invited chair professor in the School of Humanities & Social Sciences. He will serve for two years at KAIST.


He starts his first lecture on November 10 with the topic ‘Poetry and the World' for master’s course students. Ko’s series of lectures will broaden students’ interdisciplinary scholarship and humanistic grasp.


Ko has received many literary awards nationally and internationally. His masterpieces including “Mountain Paekdu” and “Ten Thousand Lives” have also drawn international attention. His works have been translated into 30 languages including English, German, Chinese, and French.


Moreover, Ko has served as a visiting research scholar at the Yenching Institute of Harvard University, visiting professor at University of California at  Berkeley, and visiting professor at Seoul National University. Currently he holds a position of president of the compilation committee for the Korean Grand Dictionary, Archbishop of Milan as the first Korean member of the Ambrosiana Academy in Milan, and he was commissioned to be a Goodwill Ambassador for Peace by UNESCO Korea in 2014.


Scholars and his supporters around the world established the Ten Thousand Lives Academy and the Ko Un Society in order to study his literary works, along with the Ko Un Foundation.
