As of June 2013, about 30 students from Brazil are currently studying at KAIST for exchange and degree programs. The students are mostly dispatched by the Brazilian federal government’s science education initiative, Science without Borders (SwB), which is a large-scale, nationwide scholarship program implemented to foster excellent scientists and engineers as well as to enhance the nation’s competiveness in science and technology education. KAIST has been an active partner university for the SwB program.

In late June, a delegation from the Brazilian Association of Rectors from State and City Universities, a consortium that is founded in 1991 and consisted of 46 public universities in Brazil, visited Korea to see the progress made under the SwB program in Korea. On June 25th, the delegation arrived at KAIST and met with President Steve Kang and Brazilian students on campus.
