Summary
Summary Graduate Graduate School of Medical Science and Engineering is a Ph.D. program for MDs who have graduated the Medical School with curriculum centered on basic medical science and medical engineering. Therefore, this program is categorized into two majors; basic medical science and medical engineering.
M.D./Ph.Ds who have completed the basic medical science course will not only treat known diseases properly but analyze the fundamental cause of each diseases at the level of molecule to develop new remedies and going forward be equipped with the capability of discovering unknown diseases and become key members to contribute to the realization of ‘healthy and long living society’ for the 21st century.
M.D./Ph.D.s who have completed medical engineering will leverage their basic knowledge in medicine to participate in the development of medical equipments and machines.
Therefore, these engineers will not only contribute to the development of new diagnosis and treatments but will become the leaders of the medical industry to create new value added technologies in the Bio-era and enhance the country’s competitiveness together.
The Graduate Graduate School of Medical Science and Engineering is not only consisted of full-time professors but has strong interdisciplinary collaboration with the participation of relevant KAIST professors (of department of life science, department of bio-system, department of physics, department of chemistry, department of mechanical engineering, department of life chemical engineering, department of nuclear and quantum engineering, department of material engineering, department of electricity and electronic engineering, department of computer science), domestic and medical professors as visiting professors and adjunct professors
This program is basically a program for Ph.Ds, however if the student holds a bachelor degree, the student will enter into the graduate and master comprehensive program. However the credit requirement will be the same for both programs.
Curriculum Provide in-depth knowledge of basic life science and engineering based on medical knowledge and concentrated on fostering application capabilities to apply clinically research results acquired from basic research and various research activities. The curriculum includes advanced life science, advanced molecular biology, advanced cell biology, advanced embryology and genetics, bio information electronics and promotes to reinforce multi-interdisciplinary capabilities by allowing completion of curriculums of diverse departments of KAIST as elective courses.
