Summary
Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is the only engineering field that connects “chemical science” and “nano science” to the existing field of chemical engineering, which is mainly concerned with the development of life sciences related products/technology/information technology and energy related technology, and with related academic fundamental technology. In an era of cooperative research with other academic subjects, the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering aims to nurture qualified life science engineers with practical knowledge of chemical science and nano science. Our achievements in research and education have been recognized domestically and internationally. Our facilities include research centers sponsored by KOSEF including Bio Process, the Center for Ultramicrochemical Process Systems, the Center for Advanced Functional Polymers, and National Research Laboratories including Metabolic & Biomolecular Engineering NRL, the BioProcess Engineering Research Center, and the Environmental Catalysis Laboratory
Curriculum
Our educational program provides students an opportunity to design their own program, free from existing categorized education. It boasts simplified major requirements compared to other departments. The students are required to fulfill 5 credits of major requirements (Experiments of molecular engineering, Experiments of Chemical engineering I and II) and 35 credits in major courses. Courses taken from other departments can be approved as major requirements by the department meeting. Other requirements for graduation are outlined in the school regulations.
We also encourage students from other departments to minor in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Those students must fulfill 2 credits from major requirements and 16 credits from major courses. The courses we currently offer are Understanding of molecular and nano systems, Molecular mechanisms and energy systems, Chemical molecular engineering, Organism chemical engineering, Molecular reaction engineering, Disjunction of molecules and organisms, Micro fluid mechanisms, Energy and molecule shifts, Procedural reproduction and control,
Overview of high molecule engineering, Organism information, Optimum designs and economy, High molecule structure and property, Nano engineering technology, Overview of environmental engineering, Microelectron procedure, and Overview of chemical engineering.
After graduation
Our graduates will be in charge of technical applications of chemical science and nano science in a wide variety of fields such as chemical engineering and electronic information related industries. Also, they will take leading roles in nano technology related industries and energy and environment fields, which will be the foundation of future industry.
