Graduation requirements
Credit and Grade Requirements
A. Credit Requirements
- Undergraduate program : 130 credits (Student admitted before 1996 must complete 140 credits)
- Master's program : A minimum of 33 credits (21 course work credits and 12 research credits)
- Doctoral Program: A minimum of 60 credits (30 course work credits, and 30 and research credits)
B. Grade Requirements
- Undergraduate Program : Accumulative GPA of 2.0/4.3 or higher
- Master's/ Doctoral Programs : Accumulative GPA of 2.5/4.3 or higher
English and community Service Requirements
English Proficiency Requirements
A: Undergraduate Program
- Students are required to meet one of the following requirements on English proficiency before entering KAIST or during their years of enrollment: 560 points in PBT TOEFL; 220 points in CBT TOEFL; 83 points in IBT TOEFL; 6.5 points in IELTS; 720 points or 760/775 points in TOEIC (see below); or 599 points or 670/690 points in TEPS (see below).
- ※ Criteria for TOEIC and TEPS scores
- Students submitting scores from new TOEIC (held in May 2006 and onward) or TEPS held on March 1, 2007 and onward: 720 points in TOEIC; or 599 points in TEPS
- Students submitting scores from old TOEIC (held before April 2006) or TEPS held before February 28, 2007:
- Students entering KAIST in 2008 and onward: 775 points in TOEIC; or 690 points in TEPS
- Students entering KAIST in 2007 or before: 760 points in TOEIC; or 670 points in TEPS
- ※Original copy of the official score record of a certified English test should be submitted to The Academic Registrar’s Team, 111 Creative Learning Center(E11).
Community Service Requirements
A: Undergraduate Program
- Students admitted in or after 2006 must complete 4 AU
- Students admitted in or after 2008 must complete 2 AU
B. Application period
- 1st half (January - June): Services rendered until the end of June of the relevant year,
- 2nd half (July - December): Services rendered until the end of December of the relevant year.
C. Community Service Organizations
- External
- Flower Town, orphanage, nursing homes , community centers, Public welfare organizations
- Museum, library, Red Cross blood donation center, Korea National Parks Authority, public organizations, City Hall, district offices, town offices, government offices,etc..
- Hospitals, medical welfare institutions, volunteer centers, environmental groups, etc.
- Internal
- Executive member of student council, student representative of a department, officer for peer group (executive member level), Student Welfare Board officer, Educational broadcast station activity, and school representative of residence halls.
- School clean up campaign, safe transportation campaign, public welfare organizations, supports for major school events.
D. Recognition of Community Service

E. Application procedure
External (Off-campus) : Obtain the Proof of the community service sealed with the signature of the service organization (date and time, location, volunteer details, supervisor and organization heads’ legal seal) and submit it to the Academic Registrar’s Team .
Internal (On-campus): Complete the ‘Confirmation of On-campus Volunteer’ form with a signature from the head of the corresponding administrative office and submit the form to the Academic Registrar’s Team.

Early graduation
A. Definition
Students in the undergraduate program may apply for the early graduation if they have met graduate requirements, regardless of the number of years in the program.
B. Application period
Within 30 days after the commencement of the semester in which students expect to graduate
C. Qualified students
Students who have fulfilled their graduation requirements and whose GPA of 3.0/4.3 or higher.
D. Application procedure
Complete the application form => Obtain approval from your academic advisor and the Head of your Department /Division => Submit the form to the Academic Registrar’s Team
