Need Blind Admission and Education Policy of KAIST 
학생의 재정 여건과 무관한 입시 및 교육 정책

KAIST admits outstanding students who satisfy the requirements and standards for admission to KAIST regardless of their financial situations. All students admitted will be financially supported, if necessary, through various scholarship and loan programs. The goal is to educate all students admitted to KAIST who excel in their chosen disciplines and who have the potential to contribute to the nation and the society. No able students will have to leave KAIST for financial reasons. The following policy outlines the KAIST "Need Blind Admission and Education Policy."

KAIST는 학생과 보호자의 재정 상태에 관계없이 우수한 학생을 선발하여 입학시키며, 일단 입학한 학생은 장학금과 대여학자금 제도 등을 활용하여  학업에 지장이 없도록 지원함을 원칙으로 하여 국가와 인류 사회를 위하여 공헌할 수 있는 인재로 양성한다. 다음은 "재정 여건 무관 입학 및 교육 정책"의 개요를 보여준다.

1. The decision on admission of all applicants is made without considering their ability to pay the cost of education at KAIST.
모든 입학 지원자는 본인과 보호자의 재정적인 여건에 상관없이 합격 여부가 결정된다.

2. KAIST provides the financial support to all newly admitted and current students so as to enable them to be students at KAIST regardless of their own and/or their parents' ability to pay the tuition. The form of the support can be in the form of either scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students or loans through KAIST and guaranteed by their parents, which must be paid back after graduation.

KAIST는 입학한 학생(학사과정 학생, 대학원 국비장학생 및 KAIST 장학생, 외국인 학생) 본인과 보호자의 경제적인 여건에 상관없이 학업을 계속할 수 있도록 최대한 지원한다. 재정적 지원의 형태는 학부 및 대학원생을 위한 장학금, 혹은 KAIST의 도움과 학부모 보증으로 졸업 후에 상환하는 대출을 받는 것이다.

3. KAIST has been operating under the principle that the public sector and KAIST cover the primary cost of education. All students in good standing are given full tuition that covers the tuition of KAIST as long as the financial allows the implementation of this policy.

KAIST는 학생(학사과정 학생, 대학원 국비장학생 및 KAIST 장학생, 외국인 학생)의 교육에 필요한 비용을 국가와 학교가 부담하는 것을 원칙으로 운영되어 왔으며, 본 정책 실행을 위한 재정적인 뒷받침이 되는 한 좋은 수준의 학생에게는 KAIST 학비를 충당할 수 있는 장학금을 제공한다.

4. In order to encourage students to finish their studies within the allotted time in good standing, KAIST imposes a full or partial tuition to students whose academic performance (as indicated by the grade point average "GPA") is below B average. Also students who do not finish their studies within the specified period for their degree will not be given any further scholarship, but can request a loan that may be arranged through KAIST and by their parents.

학생들이 정해진 시한 안에 좋은 성적으로 학업을 마치는 것을 독려하기 위해, (학점 평점을 기준으로) 학업 성적이 B 평균 이하로 부진한 학생에게는 학비 전액, 혹은 일부를 징수한다. 또한 학업이 지연되어 연차 초과된 학생은 더 이상 장학금 혜택을 받을 수 없으며, KAIST와 학부모의 도움을 통해 대출 신청을 할 수 있다.

5. KAIST encourages domestic students to pay their tuition by using the off-campus loan programs.

내국인 학생에게는 교외 대출 프로그램을 이용하여 납부 할 것을 독려한다.

6. International students, whose GPA is below B, are encouraged to seek loans from the student loan program to be arranged by KAIST for international students, if their parents are not able to pay the tuition and other fees.

학점 평점이 B 이하인 외국인 학생들에게는 학부모가 학비 및 기타 교육 경비를 충당할 수 없는 경우, KAIST의 도움으로 학자금 대출 프로그램을 통해 납부할 수 있도록 한다.

7. The parents of KAIST students, who are financially able, are urged to make voluntary financial contributions to KAIST to make KAIST more competitive and help those students who are in need of financial assistance.

경제적 여건이 되는 학부모에게는 KAIST의 경쟁력 향상을 도모하고 재정적 지원이 필요한 학생들을 도울 수 있도록 자발적인 기부 활동을 권장한다.
